As a fully qualified Driving Standards Agency approved driving instructor I can provide legal driver training for under 17’s at an off-road facility on the outskirts of Winchester. The training site is approximately 3 miles of private military road system with various inclines where there are suitable areas for practicing basic driving techniques and manoeuvres without the added pressure of oncoming traffic. Training will take place in an air conditioned car equipped with dual controls. The course aims to make drivers safer and more confident when they take to the roads for the first time and I can provide various training packages depending on the requirements of the individual. 2, 4 and 6 hour courses are available covering these topics.... • Car controls • Moving off and stopping the car • Clutch control/slow speed control • Basic reversing • Gear changing • How to perform an emergency stop • Steering development In addition, I will provide pupils with useful training aids via the ‘downloads’ section of my website. The course costs £40 per hour, whether there are 1, 2 or 3 students in the car (i.e. 1 student pays £40 per hr, 2 students pay £20 each per hr, 3 students pay £13 each per hr). Gift vouchers are available on request. (Please note: Under 17’s do not require a provisional licence for this course)
Statistics show that 1 in 5 newly qualified drivers will be involved in a collision within the first 6 months of driving. I believe that experience is the key to reducing this alarming statistic as the more driving experience a novice can gain, the more adept they will be at dealing with high risk situations. This off-road training will enable young drivers to master basic driving techniques before having to deal with oncoming traffic and will minimise the disruption caused to residents who live in key areas for practicing manoeuvres.
